  1. The house is just a two story white house, with a flat roof, and lots of windows. From the description in the book it sounds like the walls were made just like the walls we see every day in our society. To me the house just sounds like a regular house you would see today. I’m actually shocked that the house in still there, I would’ve figured that it would have rotted. I think that Liberty and Equality find it so interesting because they’ve never seen anything like it. The houses they’ve grown up seeing and staying in are very bleak. They have white walls and no character to them. The house they are living in now is fully furnished and has books! They have never seen anything like this before. The house has curtains, which is a new thing for them. They are also used to extremely large house that sleep up to 100 men; the house they found could only sleep up to 12 men.

    Honors:

I think the significant value of the house is that they finally have something that is theirs. In the society they all shared everything; the house is something that is all theirs. The house kind of signifies freedom, and individuality. I think that house also symbolizes the start of their lives together. Also that they can start a family and be with the person they truly love and want to be with. To me that is the biggest symbolic value of the house.

  2. #1: The house is two stories and is painted white. It has windows that rap all the way around the house. It has a flat roof. The house seems unusual but in the society of the unmentionable times it was normal. On the inside there was a library filled with printed books and two bed and clothes that are normal to us but they are strange to Liberty and Equality. They think it is strange because it is not as big as the great big halls they lived in that could hold a lot of people. It also has printed books rather than ones that are hand written. They have never seen such a place in their whole lives and they think it is really weird because that is really the only different thing they have ever seen.

Honor's Discussion Prompt: I think it symbolizes discovery and independence. I think that to them it symbolizes freedom from the way they used to live back in their old society. I think that a house to yourself still symbolizes independence and is a very big achievement. I can't imagine how big of an achievement it was for Liberty and Equality because they tossed aside their old society and went off on there own.

  3. The house Liberty and Equality find is a two story home. It has many windows and a flat roof. To me, it sounds like a modern style house that you may find in society today. It is clearly from the Unmentionable Times. Equality says it can house up to 12 men and has a strange room that is described like a kitchen. There is a library with tons of hardback books instead of scrolls. There are also mirrors hanging on the walls; this is the first time Liberty sees her reflection. There are also "glass globes" everywhere, which are lightbulbs. It's strange to Liberty and Equality because they have never seen a house like this before. It would probably house an average size family and not 100 men. It is also furnished in a style they aren't used to because their former society was so austere.

Honors: For me this house sybolizes a new way of life for Equality and Liberty. They aren't used to seeing anything like this and are adjusting to this new living space. Many items and pieces of furniture they've never seen before. While i read this chapter I had that one Disney song that goes like "a whole new world!" over and over again stuck in my head. It's weird, but it kind of almost makes sense.

  4. 1.The house is two stories tall, is painted white and it has many windows. It is like our modern day houses, so it has to be from the unmentionable times. The house has books and is filled with other tings too.It is quite different from the houses they lived in while they were growing up in the Anthem society, because they used to live in very bleak and colorless houses, but now they are in a great house filled with interesting things. They think that it is very unique because it is not like anything they have ever seen.

Honors:The house symbolizes new things to learn about the unmentionable times by reading reading the books that located in the house. They will be able to understand the ways of life and how it used to be.The new house also symbolizes them starteing their life together without being held out on answers of the past.

  5. The house that Equality and Liberty came upon was a normal house for our day, but to them it was completely foreign. It was a white two-story house with a flat roof and alot of windows. The inside was bright and colorful. They find this house so unique because they've never had something this extravagant. Everything the've ever had has been drab and dreary. This is like a breath of fresh air.

Honors: To me this house symbolizes a new, free beiginning for Equality and Liberty. They can start over and learn to be themselves without the constricting rules of their old society.

  6. Equality and Liberty found a house that was left over from the Unmentionable Times. It was a two-story, white, house that had a flat roof and windows. The walls were hard and smooth, and not stone. They found it strange because it was built of totally different materials. It also had different contents.

Honors: In the house, they found clothes made of different colors and materials. The appearance of the house is unique to them, which is symbolic because they are unique individuals. Both of them seek knowlege, and they become lucky when they find the books. It seems that they will really like their new house.

  7. The house was a two-story white house with a lot of big windows. The roof is flat like a floor. It is made of the same material as the tunnel, making its walls hard and smooth to the touch. The rooms were described as small but in today's time they were probably pretty average. The windows had curtains and there was color everywhere. There were mirrors and light bulbs that they couldn't quite figure out. They only found two beds and this amazes them, and they find a lot of colorful clothing. They find a lot of books that they are eager to read, and many other treasures that were new to them.

Honors: Symbolically, the house symbolizes a past that is lost to them and a new future they can create for themselves. This house is the opposite of everything they have learned, and it only serves to strengthen Equality's resolve to be his own person. The house is perfect for them because it was everything they were looking for and more. Everything was new to them. It shows that they can have a whole new and different life.

  8. The house Equality and Liberty came upon was just a simple two–story white house. This is nothing elaborate for our society today. However, to Equality and Liberty, this was very strange. They are used to much larger houses build for 100 men and this house is very small just meant for a few. The two decided this would be their new home, it was different but they like the new change. Their house has a lot of character and many windows to look out and admire the world. The house also had books in it, nothing hand-written. Equality wishes to read them and learn from the Unmentionable Times. Liberty and Equality are very excited about discovering this house and can’t believe that it’s all theirs.

Prompt: This house symbolizes freedom for Liberty and Equality. They never have to worry about their old society and they can move on. I think it’s sweet how the two of them ran away and now they can start a new life together.

  9. The house Liberty and Equality discovered is full of wonders they couldn't conjure up in their wildest dreams. There are colors, probably versions of pink, purple, orange, and red, that they have never experienced. he house itself isn't the traditional brown, grey, or white of Anthem. There are books with neater and smaller handwritting than the books of Anthem. The thing most interesting wonder to them is the mirror on the wall. This is a truly spectacular place of learning and discovering for Equality and Liberty.

Honors/ I think their house symbolizes learning, discovery, and independence. In Anthem man shared everything, now they are experiencing a new freedom. This house serves Equality by encouraging him to be even more of his own person. This house is exactly what they needed and more. The biggest symbolic value of the house is the happiness and love it gives them.

  10. The house that Liberty and Equality discover is very old. It is a two story building with windows filling most of the wall, which are very smooth. They see walls that have shelves, and windows that show everything, including them, as a reflection. They come upon two beds, which possibly means that there was a couple that lived here before them. They agree that this house must have come from the Unmentionable Times.

Honors Prompt: The significate value of this house is obvious. The house is theirs, and they are the only ones that know of its existence. There are many things inside of the house that are confusing to them. They understand that there is a cooking area, but do not know how to use the appliances. Then, there is the mirror. They think of it as a window, but it is not. Then they come upon the shelves, and have never seen such a unique way of using the wall. Although, now they are together and are happy because they do not have to worry about getting caught.

  11. The house is a place that Equality and Liberty have to themselves. It has many windows, which the two arent used to. It also is a two story building with a flat roof. It has many small rooms rather that one large open area. Equality and liberty are entranced by such a place because they aren't used to such a thing. It's very strange in the fact that it has still been standing since The Unmentionable Times. In addition, it is a place which has been made for a smaller group, rather than hundreds living in one place.

    Honors Prompt:
This house is described in such a way it has become symbolic of unity in ways of tying two people together with a closer relationship, as well as freedom. It is a place where they can live freely and do what they want. The books represent knowledge to which they have access to and the rest of society don't.

  12. The house was probably a vacation home from the Evil Times. It is two stories with a flat roof. It is made out of a lot of glass and windows. It is a typical modern time house for us, a bedroom for the people that live there and a kitchen for the house.

One significance of the house is the glass walls and windows. A lot of light means enlightenment. It also means it's open and not locked like the society of Anthem. With a dark, few window house you have hardly anything going on, but with a glass house you have light from the world shed into the room. This light are like the books he discovered. The real world. The real deal he discovers is that there is more to his life than that city and the council. Thats what the house symbolizes. Light, and openness.

  13. The house is two stories high and has a flat roof. It has more windows than it has walls, and the walls are smooth. It has heavy curtains hanging on the windows and small rooms. Equality thinks that this is strange because he has lived in dorms that hold one-hundred people for all of his life. The rooms are also filled with light and have walls painted with many colors. There are also mirrors in the house, which Equality has never seen before. In addition he finds lightbulbs which he has never seen either. There are also only two beds in the bedroom, and this amazes him because the sleeping halls that he has seen have all held one-hundred people. I think that the signigfigance behind these objects are quite evident. The brightly colored walls represent the brilliance of what man can do, the light represents the goodness of knowledge, the lightbulbs represent the achievements that man can make when he trys, the mirrors remind man of who he is and that he is his own person, and the two beds represent man's right to choose what he wants, even to the point of who he wants to live with, and what he wants his house to be like.

  14. The house was two stories with a flat roof. It had many windows. It had bright colors that they've never seen. It wasn't the dull colors of Anthem. It has shelves on the walls, and there were two beds. Plus, there was even a kitchen. That meant that there was a couple that lived there before and they realized that it was from the Unmentionable Times. Equality found books much different than the ones in Anthem that explained things that he was not sure of. It was a perfect house for Equality and Liberty to live.

I think the significance of house symbolizes freedom for both Equality and Liberty. It means that they get a fresh start to live their lives the way they want. They get a second chance. I think he was chosen to figure out more about the Unmentionable Times, and make a difference about it. Everything happens for a reason. They got to experience new things and ideas. They get to live their lives the way they want instead of being controlled.

  15. The house has a flat roof with many windows. It is bright and has two stories. There was a kitchen inside with shelves on the walls. there were two beds Because a couple lived there in the unmentionable times. They are not used to any of this but like the fact that they are alone and will be together.

Honor: I think the house symbolizes a new beginning. Liberty and Equality are free and alone together and can do what they want. They are away from the society and being controlled. They can have a free mind and a fresh start.

  16. The house Equality and Liberty found had two stories. It was small to them because they were use to houses that could house a lot of people. It had large windows and the wall had more colors than Equality and Liberty were use to. They were surprised by the books, light bulbs, and mirrors. All this seemed so different to them because it is different from everything they had ever known.

Honors: The house symbolizes change. Everything about the house is new an strange to Equality and Liberty and they are so eager to find out what it all does. They can start over, make everything in their lives right. They can rediscover the 'unmentionable times'. Their lives can only get better from there.

  17. The house that Equality and Liberty find is nothing they have ever seen before. It is a house from the "Unmentionable Times." The house comes across as very bright filled with plenty of color. The house is two stories tall and has a flat roof. The house also has many windows. They said the walls were hard and smooth, like the stone they had seen in their tunnel. They found mirrors and globes. There were only two beds, which is different because they were used to living with many people. The house is most definitely from the unmentionable times and they see what the counci has been hiding from them. Equality and Liberty declared the house theirs and they will share it with no one.

Honors: I think the house symbolizes freedom, discovery, and indepence. Now that Equality and Liberty have left, they are on their own. They don't need anyone to tell them what to do. Finding the house means the council has kept secrets and they are willing to find out more. They found out everything on their own, no help from their 'brothers'. They are living for themselves and no one else. The things they are finding within the house, the windows, clothes, paintings, books are leading them closer to what is the Unmentionable times. Now, they are free. Equality and Liberty can now make their own decisions, they get the chance to start over. Now that they've found all this information, it's time for a change. They want to let the world know.

  18. 1) The house that Equality and Liberty see is very interesting to them. The house is a lot like a house in our society. The house is different than their homes and shows that a long time ago was different than it was in his society, modern day.

Honors) This house's significance is very important in this story. The house shows how the Council knows a lot more than they allow their people to know. The house shows that once upon a time everyone was allowed to express their individuality as far as what their homes looked like.

  19. They notice the walls are painted with bright paint that brighten the room with scintillating colors. They also notice these big pieces of glass in the walls. They find windows strange because they have never seen one before. They have been sheltered their whole life.
Honors prompt: It symbolizes a new start and beginning. The house is a place that Equality and Liberty begin to start their new ways of life without the government.

  20. The house equality and liberty find is a two story flat roofed house. They describe it full of vibrant and bright colors that they have never seen before. They find it odd that there are only two beds and the rooms have tons of books on the walls. The little glass globes are scattered around the house. There is also clothing from the unmentionable time that liberty finds quiet amazing. It’s something entirely new to their life.

    Honors:
This house represents a new chapter in their lives. It symbolizes the new beginning and new founding of an entirely new way to live. The house is beaming with new things to discover and explore. If the counsel kept this house from them who knows what else they've been hiding. This house only leads to discovery and light.

  21. The house that Equality and Liberty discover is a two story, flat roofed house. They describe it as being very bright and seeing certain colors for the first time. With the two beds, glass globes, clothing, and everything from the unmentionable times, they are quite amazed on their discovery.

Honors- This house from the unmentionable times begins a new chapter for the two. They can finally start living how they want to. This discovery is only going to open to more on their quest.

  24. The house sounds very modern. It has two stories and many glass windows. Inside it held many relics. Included in these were books that told them the truth. Equality and his wife had never seen many of these things.

  25. Honors- it establishes a new world for them, fitting built in things from the past. It gives them help in their hope to restore I promience again someday.

  26. This particular house is very modern. It has a whole glass wall in it. It also has many different angles which make up its structure. It includes closets filled with colored clothes and may technologies such as the light bulb. Equality and Liberty find it so odd because they are used to only neutral colored clothes. They also have never seen a house with only two beds in it.

Honors- I think the significant value of this house is change. They have always had the same things over and over again and they were ready for change. This house is just the start of a great revolution.

  27. QUESTION/ The Unconquered and the Golden One come upon a house which appears to have been built in the twentieth century and is complete with electricity and sophisticated technology.
HONORS PROMPT/ The house represents the light and knowledge of the past. Its contents are what men once knew and chose to forget. The lamps, the carpet, the decorations are all representations of how lavish our time was and how drastic theirs had been.

The house was built of glass or windows that let sunshine wash over the house during the day to make it sparkle and pretty. It had mirrors and beds and bedrooms and pictures and paintings and other decor. It had a stove and electronic things too. Liberty and Equality find it strange because in the society they were raised in they couldn't see any of these things. To have a painting for example, would express thought and emotion and talent which means someone would be different which would go against the rules of the counsil.

    Honors-
I think the symbolic value of the house is new knowledge. They finally see something strange and ifferent and learn easily from what they are shown. It finally gives them a chance to express their own opioiuns about things like how Liberty loved the closet full of clothes and Equality prefered the library full of books.

  30. 1) The house they find is one we would see in our everyday life. lots of windows and two stories with a flat roof. this is different to Equality and Liberty because they have never seen these strange items before. they only knew of all white rooms with 100 beds where u and ur "brothers" stayed.

Honors- For me the house sybolizes freedom from the concil. the two of them finally see how the people lived in the unmentionable times. this allows them to have a unique way of life.

  32. When Liberty and Equality come across the house form the Unmentionable times, they find things from our era within it. They find light bulbs, a kitchen, mirrors, clothes that have actual color to them. It is a house of wonders to Liberty and Equality. Liberty has rediscovered fashion thanks to the clothes she has found in the main bedroom, and Equality has discovered a library with hard back books. Equality cannot read most of the words in the books though, so he must learn. The house is two stories, modern style, and has a flat roof. Equality says, “There was more window than wall upon its walls, and the windows went on straight around the corners, though how this kept the house standing we could not guess.” on page 89. It sounds like the house has sliding glass doors. Equality and Liberty do not know what to make of this house; in fact at first they think that there was only space for twelve men. It is a complete culture shock to them when they realize the house was built for two. When they start looking through the house, the pair discovers curtains. The kitchen its self was amazing, Equality describes it as,” a place of wonders,” on page 92 It probably had a gas or electric stove, pots pans, and mabey some plastic ware.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The house represents many things. It represents freedom, because it is still standing and is away from the society that Equality and Liberty came from. It represents stability for the fact that it is still standing after so many years, and it represents individuality for all of the colors and the fact it has a flat roof, even today most of our roofs are angled or slightly pointed. It also represents knowledge. It has a huge library with hundreds of hardback books with large amounts knowledge waiting to be read. There are windows all around the house which let in light. Imagine that light is knowledge, and darkness is a lack of knowledge. So the windows that let in light to a house with a huge library full of books, in its self represent knowledge. The entire book in a way kind of hinges on knowledge. Equality wants to get away from a city that hates knowledge. Thus he goes into the woods to find more knowledge.
